A medical doctor by training, Dr. Pegu has represented the Dhemaji constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly since 2017 and currently serves in the state cabinet. He previously served as a Member of Parliament from the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat (2014–2019) and as the first directly elected Chief Executive Member of the Mising Autonomous Council (2013–2017).

Bhubon Pegu has represented the Jonai constituency for multiple terms (2006–2011 and again since 2016). Long active in Mising community organisations, he served as General Secretary of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (the Mising students' body) before entering electoral politics.

Pradan Baruah represents the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency, which covers Dhemaji district, in the national Parliament — a seat he has held since a 2016 by-election (succeeding Sarbananda Sonowal) and retained in 2019 and 2024. He had earlier served as an MLA from the Dhemaji assembly constituency itself.

Tabu Ram Taid

Tabu Ram Taid

Educationist, Linguist & Author (1942–2019)

A pioneering scholar of the Mising language and culture, Tabu Ram Taid compiled the first comprehensive dictionary of Mising and wrote extensively on Mising history, folklore and grammar over a long academic career, including a stint lecturing at Dhemaji College. He went on to head several of Assam's key education bodies, including SCERT and the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA). His legacy is closely tied to Dhemaji district: a memorial museum and library in his name stands at Gogamukh, where an annual literary award is also presented in his memory.
